The Experience

We stepped out from Yabangee Base in Cihangir, right in the middle of Taksim, and I could already hear the city humming — that low buzz of Friday night energy. Our guide, Cem, was all smiles and somehow remembered everyone’s name within five minutes (I barely remembered my own after the second stop). The group was this wild mix: a couple from Izmir, two solo travelers from Berlin and Seoul, me clutching my phone like a lifeline. By midnight we’d hit a rooftop club — not fancy but with this view over tangled rooftops and minarets poking up through city lights. The music thumped underfoot; strangers danced together like they’d known each other for years. I caught myself grinning at nothing in particular. We spent about an hour at each place but honestly time got slippery after that second round of shots. The night ended somewhere near Galata Tower with a handful of us sharing late-night simit on the curb, laughing about who lost at flip cup (me).
