The Experience

We’d barely made it out of the hotel lobby when our driver grinned and handed us over to the boat crew — it was all so easy, no scrambling for taxis or directions. But honestly, sometimes it’s better just to watch things go by instead of listening too hard.

When we slowed near Maiden’s Tower, everyone shuffled to that side for photos. There was this golden haze on the water — not quite sunset yet but close — and I tried to get a selfie with the tower behind me but mostly caught my own hair blowing everywhere. A woman next to me offered to take my picture (she got a good one), then told me she does this cruise every time her cousins visit from Ankara. That made me smile. I didn’t expect to feel so relaxed on such a short day trip from Istanbul; maybe it’s something about being surrounded by water and history at once. I still think about that view sometimes.
