The experience
The day starts with a thirty-minute bus ride from your Fethiye hotel through pine and sweetgum forests along the Dalyan road, with views of Sülüngür Lake on the way. Once you reach Dalyan, you board a riverboat and head to Köyceğiz Lake, stopping for ten minutes at the junction to learn about the lake's history before moving on to the Sultaniye Mud Bath. This thermal spring has been active since the Lycian period and sits directly on the lake shore. The sulfur-rich hot water pools are known to leave skin feeling smoother and the body more relaxed as minerals work into your skin.
After lunch, the boat continues down the Dalyan river canal toward Iztuzu Beach. Along the way, your guide points out the rock-cut tombs carved into the cliffs above the ancient city of Kaunos, which date back around 2,000 years and were reserved for royal figures. You'll have a short stop here to hear more about the site before reaching Iztuzu Beach, where the river meets the sea. You get 1.5 hours to swim, sunbathe and rest. If you're lucky, you may spot a Caretta caretta turtle, the second-largest hard-shelled sea turtle in the world, in its natural habitat. The beach closes to the public from May to September each year to protect the endangered turtles during nesting season.
The tour wraps up with a revitalizing outdoor mud bath at Köyceğiz Lake before the bus returns you to your hotel in Fethiye. The whole day runs eight hours from pickup to drop-off.
