The experience
Mustafa Paşa Village opens the day: a place where Turks and Greeks lived side by side during the Ottoman period, its architecture and ancient churches still holding the spirit of that shared history. From there you move to Keşlik Monastery outside Ürgüp, the most expansive monastery complex in Cappadocia, with two churches dedicated to St. Michael and St. Stephen carved into the rock. The site has been in continuous use for 2,000 years, beginning as a Roman gravesite before becoming a center of Christian worship.
Sobessos Ancient City, discovered in 2002, is the only Roman ancient city in Cappadocia where you can see intact mosaics: a rarity in the region. The afternoon takes you to Soğanlı Valley, forty kilometers southeast of Nevşehir, where the cliffs hold over 20 churches from the 10th century alongside Roman-era tombs and hundreds of pigeon houses carved into the stone. You walk through different cave churches and observe the frescoes that have endured centuries of exposure. Lunch happens in the valley itself, surrounded by the landscape that shaped this religious community.
Two cultural stops anchor the route: a carpet weaving cooperative where local women hand-weave using techniques from the Silk Road era, and a leather processing workshop that shows both traditional methods and contemporary design. These workshops offer direct contact with the living traditions that continue to shape daily life in Cappadocia. The tour runs five to six hours with an air-conditioned vehicle and a licensed professional guide. Bottled water is provided throughout the day.

Is this one for you?Choose this tour if you want to understand Christianity's deep roots in Anatolia through the actual churches, monasteries and artwork that shaped the faith, not just read about it. The guided format and fixed itinerary mean all four major sites fit into a single afternoon, and the cultural stops show you how Cappadocia's traditions continue today rather than exist only in museums.

What exactly is Keşlik Monastery and why is it the largest in Cappadocia?
Keşlik Monastery is a cave monastery complex carved into the rock outside Ürgüp with two churches, St. Michael and St. Stephen, plus cave rooms and wall paintings. It is the most expansive monastery in Cappadocia because it has been in continuous use for 2,000 years, beginning as a Roman gravesite and later becoming a major center of Christian worship, so the complex expanded over centuries to accommodate that long history.
Can I see original frescoes and religious artwork on this tour?
Yes. Keşlik Monastery contains wall paintings, and Soğanlı Valley's rock-cut churches display frescoes that have survived for centuries. The tour specifically focuses on these visual records of early Christian faith and artistic practice across the sites you visit.
What is Sobessos Ancient City and what makes it different from other sites in Cappadocia?
Sobessos is a Roman ancient city discovered in 2002 at Sahinefendi Village and is the only unique Roman ancient city in Cappadocia where you can see amazing mosaics. Most archaeological sites in the region are Christian or pre-Christian, so the intact Roman mosaics here are a rare find.
How many churches will I see in Soğanlı Valley?
Soğanlı Valley contains over 20 rock-cut churches from the 10th century carved into the valley cliffs. The tour takes you through different cave churches in the valley so you can observe the frescoes and understand how this ancient community organized its religious life within the stone landscape.
What happens at the carpet weaving and leather workshops?
At the carpet weaving cooperative, you watch local women hand-weave carpels using techniques passed down for generations along the ancient Silk Road trade route. At the leather workshop, you explore the factory and see a short fashion show of locally produced leather goods, experiencing both the traditional craft and its modern application in contemporary design.
