The experience

The jeep is yours alone for the tour, with one driver who knows both routes and can adjust the itinerary on the fly. You pick either the Göreme route or the Ürgüp route (each covers five popular stops spread across roughly 3 to 4 kilometers), or arrange with the company to visit both in a longer outing. The driver gives you brief information about the places you visit in English and can use translation programs if needed. Most importantly, you set how long to linger: the standard time at each point is 15 to 20 minutes, but you can stay shorter or longer depending on what catches your eye.

The driver will help you get the best photos, either with the vehicle in the frame or with the landscape behind you. If you want to step out and walk a short distance at any of the stops, the driver can lead the way and explain what you're seeing. The tour runs approximately two hours if you stick to the standard pace, though your actual time depends on how many stops you choose and how long you spend at each one. Pickup and drop-off happen at your hotel or anywhere else within Cappadocia's borders.

Note that hot air balloons launch at sunrise in Cappadocia when weather permits. If you want to see the balloon launch sites during your safari, check the launch schedule ahead of time and plan your tour time accordingly. The driver can help you time it right.
