The experience

Cappadocia is one of the few places on earth where you can balloon almost year-round, and the morning flight is when the air is calmest. You'll rise above Göreme and drift over the fairy chimneys (those cone-shaped rock formations carved by erosion), and the valleys that run between them. The route takes you over orchards and gardens. Depending on the season, you may be able to reach down and pick an apricot for your breakfast as you float past.

From the air, the landscape tells a different story than it does from the ground. You'll see the mysterious shapes the soft volcanic rock has eroded into, and peer down into the ancient cliffside cave houses where people still live. The perspective shifts what looks abstract from below into a geography that makes sense only from above. Your pilot has completed full training and holds a license from the general directorate of civil aviation, with extensive flight experience.

The flight runs 2 to 3 hours total. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, so you don't arrange your own transport. You'll get tea, coffee, snacks and pastry during the experience, and the ticket covers insurance during the flight. At the end, you receive a flight certificate to take home.
