The experience

The flight starts with a hotel pickup at 9:30 or 10:00 in the morning. Before you board, you watch the balloon inflate. A process that takes time and gives you a real sense of the scale of the aircraft. Baskets hold a maximum of 14–18 passengers, so you're flying with a small group rather than a crowd. Your pilot speaks English and can record photos and videos during the flight if you ask. You can purchase copies after landing.

Once airborne, the flight lasts 45 to 60 minutes. You pass over the fairy chimneys (the cone-shaped rock formations Cappadocia is known for) along with the valleys, vineyards and landscapes that make the region distinctive. The route follows the natural geography, so what you see depends on wind and conditions that morning, but the pilot knows the area and adjusts the path to show you the best views.
