The experience

The rafts leave from the rafting headquarters after your guide checks life jackets and safety procedures. You'll paddle 14 km downriver through Köprülü Canyon, moving through white water and gentler stretches where you can catch your breath. The river source is fed by streams off the Taurus mountains, so the water stays cool even in the height of summer. Other rafts travel the same stretch, and friendly races can be arranged if your group wants to compete.

Lunch happens outdoors under the cliff faces, a Turkish meal served among the evergreen trees that line the canyon. The whole trip takes 4–5 hours on the water plus time at the headquarters and for the meal, making a full 9-hour outing from hotel pickup to drop-off. Bring water shoes or sneakers that can get wet, a towel, and a moderate level of fitness. You're paddling, not floating.
