The Experience

I still feel the river spray on my face from that first wild stretch — we’d barely left Antalya when our guide Mustafa started cracking jokes about who’d fall in first. The drive out was longer than I thought (bring snacks), but the mountain air hit different as soon as we rolled down the Jeep windows. Pine everywhere, sharp and sweet. There were a few other groups at the base camp but it didn’t feel crowded; mostly just laughter echoing off the rocks and a couple of local kids darting between the rafts with buckets.

Honestly, I was nervous about rafting since I’d never done it before. But the instructors were patient — they went over every detail, even how to hold the paddle so you don’t smack your neighbor (which I did anyway). The water was freezing but kind of perfect under the sun. We stopped twice along the way; one guy jumped straight in and yelled something in Turkish that made everyone laugh. Lunch after felt like a reward — simple food but tasted amazing when you’re dripping wet and tired. I think it was grilled chicken? Hard to remember because my hands were shaking from adrenaline or maybe just cold.

The quad biking part was pure chaos in the best way. Dust everywhere, engines buzzing, someone’s hat flew off into a bush and nobody bothered to stop for it. My quad kept veering left but honestly that made it more fun (or maybe I’m just bad at steering). Ziplining across the river was quick but weirdly peaceful — you get this second where everything goes quiet except for wind and your own heartbeat. Mustafa high-fived me at the end like I’d won something.

I didn’t expect to laugh so much with strangers or care about who got muddiest. The whole Antalya super combo tour is messy and loud and not polished at all — which is probably why it sticks with me now that I’m back home.
