The Experience
The pickup starts at 8 a.m. from your hotel in Antalya, Kemer, Belek, Side or Manavgat (a transfer fee applies outside central Antalya; no service runs from Alanya). After 30 minutes of driving, you arrive at Perge, an ancient Anatolian city that was once the capital of Pamphylia Secunda, and spend about an hour and a half walking the ruins. The guide handles the history; you move through what remains of a city that mattered two thousand years ago.
From Perge, it's nearly an hour to Aspendos, a Greco-Roman site seven kilometers northeast of Serik. The amphitheater here is the best preserved on the coast—the reason most people book this tour. You have time to walk it and understand why it still stands when so much else has crumbled. Lunch follows around 1 p.m., with lamb, chicken or fish as options, and then an hour's drive takes you to Side, a resort town built around an ancient port. The 2nd-century theater seated 15,000; the white marble columns of the Temple of Athena still stand near the harbor. You get free time to move through the ruins and the Side Museum, a restored Roman bath complex, at your own pace.
The final stop is Manavgat waterfall, three kilometers north of the city on the Manavgat River. The water falls from a low height but spreads wide, and the view is best from above. You have time to stand there before the drive back to your hotel, arriving around 5 p.m. The whole day—transport, entry to all four sites, the waterfall, lunch, guide and insurance—is arranged. Drinks are extra.
