The experience

The day starts with pickup from your Tunis hotel and heads straight to Carthage, where the ruins of the Punic city sit on the coast. From there you move to Sidi Bou Said, a seaside village built on a hillside with blue shutters and whitewashed walls. The Bardo Museum comes next, holding mosaics, sculptures and artifacts that trace Tunisia's history from Carthage through the Islamic period. The tour wraps with a walk through the Tunis medina, where the Zitouna Mosque stands at the center of a maze of narrow streets lined with shops and stalls.

An air-conditioned vehicle carries the group throughout the day, and a licensed guide leads you through each stop in English, French or Arabic. Entrance fees to Carthage and the Bardo Museum are included in the price. Lunch is optional. If you choose it at checkout, it's part of the package. The tour suits all fitness levels and runs on a fixed schedule that fits two of Tunisia's seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites into a single afternoon.
