The experience
You start from your hotel and move through four distinct stops, each one a different layer of the region's past. The Medina of Tunis opens with narrow streets lined with artisanal workshops (leather workers, metalworkers, textile makers), where the guide can explain what you're seeing and help you navigate the warren of stalls if you want to shop. From there, the route takes you to Carthage, where you walk among Roman ruins and the remains of the ancient bathes that once served one of the Mediterranean's greatest cities.
Sidi Bou Said sits on a clifftop overlooking the coast, a village built almost entirely in blue and white: shutters, doors, walls, even the café chairs. The architecture is Andalusian, brought by settlers centuries ago, and it's a visual break from the archaeological sites. The final stop is the Bardo Museum, which holds the largest collection of Roman mosaics and artifacts in the world. The scale of what's inside (floor mosaics the size of rooms, statuary, everyday objects preserved from centuries ago) justifies the time spent there.
Your guide has at least 25 years of experience leading groups through Tunisia and speaks one of four languages: English, French, Italian or Arabic. The whole day is private, meaning the pace and the time spent at each stop adjust to your interests. Entrance fees to Carthage and the Bardo Museum are not included and cost roughly 5 euros per person at each site.

Is this one for you?The 6 to 8 hour span covers four major sites in one day, which means you see the breadth of Tunis history but move at a steady pace. If you prefer a slower exploration of one or two places, a shorter half-day tour or a self-guided visit would suit you better.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, French, Italian and Arabic.
What is there to see at the ruins of Carthage?
Carthage holds Roman bathes and the remains of buildings from when the city was one of the ancient Mediterranean's major powers. The site is open-air, so you walk among the foundations and standing walls while the guide explains what each section was and why it mattered.
Can I shop in the Medina, or is it just a walking tour?
The Medina is a working market with leather, metalwork, textiles and other goods for sale. The guide takes you through the streets and can explain what the artisans are making. Whether you buy is entirely up to you.
How much time do we spend at the Bardo Museum?
The itinerary includes a visit to the Bardo Museum, and since the tour is private, the time you spend there depends on your interest. The collection is vast (Roman mosaics, statuary and everyday objects), so most visitors spend at least an hour or two.
Is the tour suitable if I'm visiting Tunis for just one afternoon?
The tour runs 6 to 8 hours, so it works best if you have most of a day free. If you're arriving mid-afternoon or leaving early the next morning, you may not have enough time to see all four stops without rushing.
