The Experience

We started pedaling right by the sea, the air smelling faintly salty and a little bit like jasmine from someone’s garden nearby. The first few minutes felt wobbly—I haven’t been on a bike in ages—but it came back quick enough. The ride between sites was easy—mostly flat, sun glinting off the water. I didn’t expect to feel so connected to these old stones or to laugh as much as we did along the way (my attempt at “shukran” got a full-on giggle from Sami). Three hours went by fast—maybe because everything felt close together or maybe because biking lets you see things at just the right speed. I still think about that view from Byrsa Hill sometimes when I smell salt on the air back home.
