Bedouin herders still use horses and camels for daily work, not just for tourists.

A two-hour tour of Village Bedouin, a working Bedouin farm in Tunisia, where you ride camels or horses into the countryside with a guide, return to watch traditional Tunisian bread and food prepared, and taste what comes off the fire. Live folkloric music greets you at arrival. Private transport, the ride, and refreshments are included. The village sits wheelchair-accessible and welcomes infants and service animals.

The experience

Two hours is tight enough to fit between other plans in Mahdia, but long enough to move past the welcome music into the real work of the day. A guide takes you out on camel or horseback into the surrounding countryside (the choice is yours), and the ride itself is the core of the experience, not a photo stop. You see how the animals move through the terrain and what the landscape looks like from their pace, which is slower and wider than a car window allows.

Back at the village, the cooking happens in front of you. Tunisian Tabouna bread comes off a traditional fire, and the kitchen prepares other local dishes while you watch. This is not a plated meal but a tasting of what the kitchen makes. Olive oil, bio beauty products, home decoration and clothing made locally sit in the shop if you want to take something home, though shopping is separate from what the tour covers. Refreshments come with the package.

The guide speaks English, Italian, French, German or one additional language, and pickup from your hotel is included in the price. Families with infants can bring a pram or stroller, and the site is wheelchair-accessible, so mobility does not rule it out. The village is built around showing how Bedouin culture actually works rather than staging it, which changes what you see and what you take away from the two hours.

Is this one for you?Two hours is enough to experience the ride and the food without rushing, but tight enough that you cannot spend long in the shop or linger over coffee. Book this if you want a real taste of Bedouin life and the countryside without losing the rest of your day in Mahdia.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, French, German, Italian and Arabic.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 15 years); Infant (under 3): free.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What do you actually do on the camel or horse ride at Village Bedouin?

You ride out into the countryside with an experienced guide who knows the terrain and the animals. The ride is the main activity of the tour, not a brief photo moment. You spend real time moving through the landscape at the pace of the animals.

Is the food at Village Bedouin a full meal or just samples?

The tour includes a tasting of traditional Tunisian food prepared on-site, such as Tabouna bread and other local dishes. Refreshments come with it, but this is not a sit-down restaurant meal. You watch the cooking and taste what comes off the fire.

Does the two-hour tour leave time for the souvenir shop?

The shop is part of the village, and you have time to browse between the ride and the food tasting, though shopping itself is not included in the tour price. Two hours total gives you a window to look, but not a long one.
