The experience

The tour opens on Djerba island, where you start at Sidi Jmour, the marabout associated with Obi-Wan's exile on Tatooine, then move through the Amghar Mosque, used to portray the Jundland Wastes, before reaching Ajim, the fishing village that became Mos Eisley spaceport in the original trilogy. You'll see the exterior of Obi-Wan's house and walk through streets where Stormtroopers hunted droids. A coastal drive connects these scattered sites as the landscape shifts from isolated desert to the busier atmosphere of the fictional spaceport.

Day two centers on the ksars of southern Tataouine. Ksar Hadada is the heart of the tour: the multi-level granary chambers here were transformed into Mos Espa's slave quarters, where scenes with Anakin, Shmi, Qui-Gon and Padmé were filmed in Episode I. You'll also visit Kala'a Chenini, a 12th-century Amazigh mountain settlement that scouts considered for Mos Espa during the 1990s reconnaissance but ultimately left untouched, and Ksar Guilane, another fortified granary used to build Tatooine's rugged streets and passageways. The guide shares behind-the-scenes stories about how simple Tunisian architecture became the Star Wars galaxy.

Pickup is arranged from nearby towns, and the tour includes breakfast and dinner. Your guide speaks English, Italian, French or German and can answer questions about both the filming history and the real Amazigh heritage of these sites. The itinerary is fixed across the two days, so the pacing and stops are set when you book.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, French, German and Italian.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Infant (1 to 17 years): free.

What exactly is Ksar Hadada and why does it matter for Star Wars fans?

Ksar Hadada is a traditional Amazigh fortified granary in southern Tunisia that was used as Mos Espa's slave quarters in Episode I: The Phantom Menace. The distinctive multi-level ghorfas (granary chambers) provided the unique architecture you see on screen, and several key scenes with Anakin, Shmi, Qui-Gon and Padmé were filmed in its streets and passageways.

Do I need to arrange my own transportation to the tour starting point?

No. Hotel pickup from nearby towns is included with the tour, so you don't need to arrange transport to meet the group.

What's the difference between the Djerba sites on day one and the Tataouine ksars on day two?

Day one focuses on original trilogy locations on Djerba island (Mos Eisley spaceport and Obi-Wan's world), while day two moves inland to the southern ksars where Episode I was filmed, centering on Ksar Hadada and the Mos Espa slave quarters. The two days show different films and different landscapes.

Are there sites on this tour that were scouted but never actually used for filming?

Yes. Kala'a Chenini, the mountain settlement you visit on day two, was explored by location scouts in 1995 for Episode I but ultimately not used for filming. Its remote location and steep access roads made large-scale production impractical, so it remains an untouched heritage site: one of the "what if" locations Star Wars fans find fascinating.
