The experience
The day starts with pickup from your stay in a 4x4 vehicle equipped to carry all the gear and fresh water for rinsing afterward. Your guide (a certified diver and local seafood expert) takes you to one of the smaller islands or beaches on Trinidad's North or Western coast, depending on what you want to see and do. Once there, you get snorkel equipment and enter the water alongside someone who knows the marine life and can point out what lives where. If you're a competent diver, you can book a spearfishing session instead, complete with a speargun and buoy.
The seafood part is entirely up to you. The team brings fresh catch or sources what you request (whole fish, fish fillets, lobster, shrimp, lionfish), and grills it right there on the beach in front of you. You can help build the fire and cook, or sit back and watch the show. Either way, you eat what you just watched being prepared, with local side options on the plate. Some spots include a short hike or exploration to another water feature in the same area if you want to move beyond the water.
Every tour includes the snorkel portion. You can add a mini-class in freediving or spearfishing to deepen your skills, request a specific beach or island, or ask for something the team hasn't done before. They build the day around what you actually want to do. The six-hour window gives you time in the water, time on the beach and time to eat without rushing.
