The experience

The private boat is the difference. Instead of joining a group, you have your own speedboat and captain for the morning, which means you leave when you're ready and stay at each island as long as you want. The boat reaches Koh Madsum in about 7 to 10 minutes from the pier, giving you time to swim in the calm water, walk the beach and meet the resident pigs that roam freely along the shore: the main draw for most travelers on this route. You can feed them, photograph them, or simply watch from the sand.

Koh Tan comes next, anchored near the coast where the coral reefs are some of the best-preserved near Samui. The snorkel gear is provided. You slip into the clear water to swim among schools of tropical fish and explore the reef. The boat waits for you, so there's no rush. On the return to Koh Samui, the captain takes you back to the pier and, if you booked the transfer option, a vehicle meets you there and returns you to your hotel.

The tour includes a beach chair, life jacket, snorkel mask and bottled water. Lunch and kayaking at Koh Tan are optional add-ons you can choose at checkout. Hotel pickup is also optional. If you arrange your own way to Maenam Beach pier, the tour costs less. The boat does not carry a guide. The captain handles navigation and timing, leaving you free to set the pace of the day.
