The Experience

The morning air felt sticky as we checked in at the little office by the pier—just enough time for a quick iced coffee while our guide explained the plan. It put me at ease right away.

Our first stop was Mai Ton Island—locals call it Honeymoon Island, which makes sense once you see that water. Afterward, we circled the island by boat, eyes peeled for dolphins. And sure enough, a pod showed up near the wake—playful and curious, just as promised.

Siam Bay came next. The boat seemed to float above nothing—just blue on blue. We jumped in for another round of snorkeling; honestly, I lost track of time watching parrotfish nibble at coral. When we finally climbed out, we wandered along Koh Racha Yai’s powdery beach. There’s a tiny shack selling coconut ice cream if you’re lucky enough to catch it open (I did). Lunch was right on the sand at one of those open-air spots where your feet stay sandy under the table.

By late afternoon, we headed to a quieter stretch of beach—no crowds, just us and a plate of fresh pineapple slices. The sun started dipping low; some folks stayed to watch it set over the water before we cruised back to Phuket. My hair still smelled like salt when I got home.
