The experience

The tour runs six to seven hours and starts with pickup from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. You arrive at the WFFT Wildlife Rescue Center and Elephant Refuge, where a live English-speaking guide walks you through the sanctuary. The center is Asia's biggest wildlife rescue operation, known from international television, and holds hundreds of animals that have been rescued from illegal trade, injury or neglect.

You'll see the big cat rescue center first: tigers, leopards, fishing cats and other wild cats living in the facility. The guide explains the behind-the-scenes work of caring for these animals and how they came to the refuge. Then you move through the elephant refuge itself, where you get close to the elephants in a setting designed to be responsible and non-exploitative. The animals here are not performing or being ridden. You're observing them in a care environment.

Lunch is served in a beautiful setting that overlooks the elephant refuge, so you eat while looking out at the animals. The meal is included in the price, along with all fees and taxes. After lunch, you continue through the wildlife hospital section and other parts of the center before heading back to your hotel. The whole day is managed: no transport to arrange, no separate ticket lines, no decisions about where to eat.
