Four islands and a tidal lagoon in one morning boat run

A full-day long tail boat tour of Hong Islands in Krabi visits four separate islands and Hong's Lagoon, a mangrove-ringed basin at the heart of the archipelago. You snorkel in emerald waters off white sand beaches, kayak or boat through the lagoon depending on tide conditions, and photograph the sand bar connecting Pakbia Island to its neighbor. The tour runs 09:00 to 15:00 with pickup between 08:00 and 08:45.

The experience

The tour departs from Krabi with a live guide who speaks English, Thai or Malay, and travels by long tail boat to Hong Island first: a place ringed by limestone cliffs, white sand and mangrove shade. From there the boat heads to Hong's Lagoon, where access by kayak or boat shifts with the tide. The lagoon sits at the island's heart, enclosed by cliffs and mangrove trees that narrow the water into a channel. Snorkeling equipment, a life jacket and bottled water come with you.

The route then takes in Lading Island, a bay surrounded by limestone cliffs and trees, and finishes at Pakbia Island, a small rocky outcrop with a sand bar that connects it to the neighboring island: the operator notes it's ideal for photographs. Lunch, fresh fruit and a soft drink are provided during the day, and travel insurance is included in the booking.

The national park entrance fee (300 baht for adults, 100 baht for children) is separate and paid on arrival. Kayaking in the lagoon is optional and costs 500 baht per person if you choose it. Children from age 4 are welcome. Infants sit on an adult's lap. The tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy.
