The experience
The day starts with pickup from your Krabi hotel and a drive through Phang Nga province that passes rubber plantations, small villages and limestone hills on the way to Ratchaprapha Dam. Once you reach Cheow Lan Pier, you board a longtail boat for the cruise across the lake: the centerpiece of the tour. Over 100 islands with sheer limestone cliffs rise from water so clear and green it looks unreal. Gibbons and hornbills live in the jungle at the water's edge and are commonly spotted from the boat.
After the cruise, you hike into the lush jungle of Khao Sok National Park to explore a cave system with impressive stalactites and stalagmites. The trail is manageable for most fitness levels, and the guide points out the forest as you walk. From there you head to the floating raft house, where a nutritious Thai lunch is served in the restaurant built on the lake itself. After eating, you have time to swim, kayak or simply rest on the deck before the longtail takes you back to the pier and the car returns you to Krabi.
The tour runs 10.5 hours door to door. Your guide speaks English and is trained in basic first aid. You get a life jacket and kayak equipment for the water, plus drinking water, coffee and fruit throughout the day. The national park entrance fee is covered, so there's nothing to arrange once you're picked up.
Is this one for you?Book this if you're based in Krabi and want boat, kayak, cave and jungle in one day with hotel pickup included: otherwise, you'll need to arrange your own transport and park entry.
