A half-day class and sanctuary visit in Bangkok where you observe rescued elephants in their natural environment, learn about their care and conservation from local staff, make a traditional Thai herbal inhaler to take home, and eat a Thai lunch. Hotel pickup is included with the morning or afternoon session you choose at checkout; the sanctuary introduction, welfare briefing, guided nature walk and activity uniform are part of every departure.

Step-by-step itinerary

Elephant sanctuary visit and workshop

  • Hotel pickup
  • Check-in at sanctuary
  • Sanctuary introduction and briefing
  • Thai herbal inhaler workshop
  • Guided nature walk and elephant observation
  • Refresh and change
  • Thai lunch buffet
  • Return transfer to hotel

The Experience

The day splits into two options: morning or afternoon, each running about five hours from hotel pickup through return. The morning session picks you up between 7 and 8 AM and has you at the sanctuary by 9, starting with an introduction and elephant welfare briefing before moving into the herbal workshop. The afternoon option leaves your hotel between 11 and 11:30 AM, so lunch comes first at the sanctuary, then the workshop and observation follow. Both routes include a guided nature walk where you watch the elephants in their space, time to refresh and change clothes, and the return transfer to your accommodation.

The herbal inhaler workshop is hands-on—you make the thing yourself using traditional Thai methods and take it home as a souvenir. Lunch is a Thai buffet included in the program. The sanctuary staff are English-speaking and lead the welfare briefing and elephant observation session, so you hear directly about the animals' histories and care. The sanctuary itself is set in a peaceful natural environment where the rescued elephants live freely, not in enclosures built for viewing.

You'll need to bring a hat, change of clothes, flip-flops or sandals, biodegradable sunscreen, biodegradable insect repellent, any personal medication, and a camera if you want photos. The activity uniform is provided. Public transportation options are available near the sanctuary if you prefer not to use the hotel transfer, and children from age 1 are welcome—infants sit on an adult's lap. The itinerary may shift depending on weather or how the sanctuary is operating on the day you visit.

Top questions

What exactly do I make in the Thai herbal workshop?

You make a traditional Thai herbal inhaler by hand during the workshop, using methods local staff teach you. It's yours to take home as a souvenir when the session ends.

Can I choose between morning and afternoon, or is one better?

Both morning and afternoon sessions run the same activities—sanctuary introduction, elephant observation, herbal workshop, Thai lunch and guided nature walk—just in different order. Morning starts at 9 AM after pickup; afternoon starts at 1 PM. Pick whichever fits your schedule, and choose whether you want hotel transfer included at checkout.

How close do I get to the elephants?

You observe the rescued elephants as they live freely in their natural surroundings during a guided nature walk. The sanctuary is designed so the animals roam in a peaceful environment rather than being confined, and the local staff guide you through their space while teaching about their care and history.

Is the lunch included, and what if I have dietary restrictions?

Thai lunch buffet is included in both the morning and afternoon sessions. Dietary restrictions are not detailed in the program information, so contact the operator directly before booking if you have specific needs.

Do I need to be fit or have experience with animals to join?

The sanctuary visit is suitable for all physical fitness levels. Children from age 1 are welcome, and infants sit on an adult's lap. No prior animal experience is needed; the local staff handle the educational parts and guide the observation.
