The experience

You board at River City Bangkok, a shopping center on the Chao Phraya River, and settle into the dining area as the boat casts off. The buffet is laid out with Thai dishes and international options prepared by local chefs, and you eat at your own pace while the boat moves downriver. A welcome drink arrives first, then coffee and tea are available throughout the evening. Any other drinks go on a tab you settle at the end.

The route passes the Grand Palace, the official residence of Thai kings since 1782, which glows against the night sky. You'll see the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand, and the Temple of the Dawn on the opposite bank: a temple named for the Hindu god of sunrise and built on the Thonburi side of the river. The Rama VIII Bridge, a suspension bridge connecting the old town to the other side, is another landmark the boat passes. If the tide is too low or too high, the boat may not be able to navigate under some of these structures, but the cruise runs either way and no refund is given for missed sights.

Live music plays throughout the evening, and cultural performances add to the atmosphere. The whole experience runs about two and a half hours from departure to return.
