The experience
The day starts with hotel pickup in Khao Lak, then a stop at Takuapa local market to browse local goods before heading to the elephant rescue camp. There you feed bananas to the elephants and cool them off with a bath: the animals move at their own pace, and the guides handle the setup so you focus on the moment. After lunch at a riverside restaurant, you board the bamboo raft for the main event: a downstream float through Khao Sok's jungle, where limestone mountains rise on either side and the water stays calm enough that no rafting experience is needed.
Midway through the raft journey, the guides pull to the riverbank for a coffee break. The coffee is brewed inside a hollowed bamboo stick, poured into bamboo cups you can take home. There's time to walk around the limestone cave nearby and sit with the sounds of the jungle before getting back on the water. The whole trip runs about nine hours from pickup to return, with the guides steering the raft so you can relax and watch the landscape.
One detail: if you're picked up from Khao Lak specifically, the Takuapa market visit is included in the itinerary. Guests from other pickup locations skip that stop. The tour operates rain or shine, though the operator may adjust the route if weather becomes unsafe.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 10 years); Infant (under 4): free.
What's the elephant experience actually like, do I get to touch them?
At the elephant rescue camp, you feed the elephants bananas by hand and bathe them with water and a brush, so yes, direct contact is part of it. The guides show you how to approach safely and the elephants set the pace for interaction.
Is the bamboo rafting difficult if I've never done it before?
No, you sit on the raft while the guides steer it downstream. The river section is calm and scenic, not technical, so no rafting skill or experience is required.
What's included in the lunch, and are there options for dietary restrictions?
Lunch is a Thai-style meal served at a local restaurant next to the river. The operator confirms your exact pickup time once you book, so you can mention any dietary needs then.
How long is the bamboo rafting part itself?
The raft journey is the centerpiece of the afternoon, with a coffee break partway through on the riverbank. The whole trip from pickup to return is about nine hours, split across the market, elephant camp, lunch, rafting and the cave stop.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The itinerary may change due to bad weather or other circumstances the operator can't predict. The tour runs, but the guides may adjust which sites you visit or the route you take to keep everyone safe.
