The experience
The tour starts with a 7am pickup from your Chiang Mai accommodation and a 1.5-hour drive to the trekking starting point. Day one centers on a 3.5-kilometer jungle trek through hill tribe territory with a local guide, moving at a pace that lets you absorb the landscape and the guide's knowledge of traditional culture. You'll observe elephants living freely in their natural environment, stop at a waterfall to swim, and eat a picnic lunch in the forest. The afternoon brings a traditional herbal foot soak (a deliberate pause to recover from the morning trek) followed by cooking a traditional dinner with your guide before settling into your overnight stay at the lodge.
Day two starts at 8am with fruit offerings to the elephants at their hut, then breakfast. You'll spend the morning in a Karen weaving workshop, learning the technique hands-on from someone who practices it daily. The afternoon moves to the river for a bamboo rafting section before the return drive to Chiang Mai. All transport, meals (lunch and dinner on day one, breakfast on day two), and the English-speaking guide are included. The lodge prioritizes ethical tourism and direct community support.
