The experience

Your driver picks you up from your hotel and takes you to Matemwe beach, where your guide and boat captain meet you to head out to Mnemba's coral reefs. The snorkeling happens in the shallow waters around the island. You get the equipment and spend the morning in the water watching the reef life. After you come back to the beach, lunch is a seafood BBQ with French fries and tropical fruit, eaten on the sand.

The afternoon moves to Nungwi Beach for swimming with sea turtles in their natural habitat. This is a different kind of water time from the snorkeling: calmer, closer, and built around watching the animals rather than the reef. As the day winds down, you head to Kendwa Beach, known for its sunset, and stay long enough to watch it. Your driver then takes you back to your hotel.

The whole day runs about seven hours from pickup to return. You choose your pickup location (Western, Southern, or Northern Area) at checkout, and the guide speaks your language if it's English, Italian, French or German.
