How do you get to Mikumi National Park from Dar es Salaam without a car? Your driver picks you up from your hotel or airport early in the morning and takes you to the SGR Train Station. The scenic train ride to Morogoro lasts about an hour. Once you arrive, your driver-guide meets you and drives you into Mikumi, another 1.5 hours, so you're in the park by late morning ready for your first game drive.

The two game drives are the core of the day. You'll head out in late morning when animals are still active, then return for lunch. The evening drive happens after a rest, when wildlife moves again as temperatures drop. Your guide navigates the park roads and spots what's there. Hippo Pools is a natural waterhole where you can watch hippos up close from a viewing platform, with birds gathered around the water. A picnic lunch is provided during the day so you don't need to leave the park to eat.

The return journey reverses the route: your driver takes you back to the train station, you ride back to Dar es Salaam, and a driver meets you for transfer to your hotel or airport.
