You paddle through salty waterways while your guide explains the wildlife and history, then walk the dense forest home to rare red colobus monkeys, explore cave artifacts and local Swahili heritage, and finish on a quiet white-sand beach.
Step-by-step itinerary

The experience
Eight hours takes you through four distinct stops, each one a different kind of Zanzibar. The mangrove kayak section is the centerpiece: you paddle through tunnels of salty forest on Uzi Island, moving at your own pace while the guide points out the ecosystem and the stories the waterways hold. The mangroves are dense enough that you're paddling through what feels like a separate world: no rush, no crowds, just the sound of water and the guide's voice explaining what lives in and around the trees.
After the water, Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park is where the rare red colobus monkeys live: a species found nowhere else on earth. The forest is thick and wet underfoot, and the monkeys move through the canopy above you. Blue monkeys, elephant shrews and bushbabies also live in the park, so there's always something moving in the trees. The guide walks you through the high-density ground forest and tells you what you're seeing as you go.
Kuza cave serves as a cultural center where you see local artifacts and a timeline of Swahili history carved into the cave itself. It's a shift from wildlife to human settlement. The same island holds both. The day ends at Paje beach, a hidden stretch with white sand and calm water where you can feel the quiet after hours of paddling and walking. Private transportation collects you throughout the day, so you're not managing your own logistics between stops.
