Step-by-step itinerary
Wildlife, forest walk, and unique lunch
- Visit wildlife sanctuary and feed giraffes
- Explore Jozani Forest and see red colobus monkeys
- Enjoy reserved lunch at The Rock Restaurant
The experience
The day starts at a wildlife sanctuary where you feed giraffes and see zebras, monkeys, tortoises and other animals at close range. From there, a guide leads you through Jozani Forest, Zanzibar's only national park, on a walk that takes in the mangrove boardwalk and the ecosystem where the rare red colobus monkeys live. The forest visit gives you the context for what you're seeing (how the island's wildlife and plants fit together) rather than a quick pass through.
At 2:00 PM you arrive at The Rock Restaurant, a structure built on a rock in the Indian Ocean. Depending on the tide, you either walk a short distance or take a boat ride to reach it. Your table is reserved, so there's no wait. You eat while the water and the horizon frame the meal. The restaurant is one of Zanzibar's most photographed spots, and the timing of this tour means you get there without the scramble of drop-in visitors.
Transport is air-conditioned throughout, and the guide handles the route and the pacing. Entrance to both the sanctuary and the national park, plus water and snacks, are included. Lunch at The Rock is paid directly at the restaurant when you eat.
