Step-by-step itinerary
Zanzibar quad bike cultural tour
- Ride quad bike through scenic trails
- Visit local village and interact
- Enjoy refreshments and relax
- Explore bustling local market
- See local farms, spices, and fruits
The experience
You start on a new quad bike fitted with helmet, gloves and glasses, then ride through scenic trails toward local villages where the landscape shifts between farmland and settled areas. The bikes are yours to operate. This is not a sightseeing tour where someone else drives. You control the pace through terrain that shows you a side of Zanzibar most visitors miss: the working island beyond the beach resorts.
At a traditional village, you stop to walk through a local home, watch residents at their daily tasks and see handmade crafts being made. Then the route takes you to a spice and fruit farm where you see crops that grow nowhere else: cloves, cardamom, mango and coconut varieties unique to Zanzibar. A break with complimentary water, seasonal fruit and juice gives you time to absorb what you've seen before riding on to a bustling local market, where you can browse handmade goods, spices and souvenirs directly from vendors.
The whole ride runs three hours and includes hotel pickup and return from Kiwengwa and the surrounding area (up to 10 km out). Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and two additional languages, and the operator carries full insurance through the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation. Restroom facilities are on board.

Is this one for you?The ride itself is three hours of active quad biking, so you're operating the bike the whole time rather than sitting as a passenger. Choose this if you want hands-on control of the experience and don't mind the physical engagement of riding. If you prefer to be driven and observe, a standard tour would suit you better.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Russian.
What's the terrain like on the ATV trails around Zanzibar?
The trails wind through scenic village landscapes, farmland and local paths that connect settlements across the island. You ride past working spice and fruit farms, then into the busier village center and market area: a mix of open ground and village roads rather than extreme off-road terrain.
Can I buy things at the market stop?
Yes, the market stop is built into the route so you can browse and purchase handmade crafts, spices and souvenirs directly from local vendors. Time is set aside to explore the stalls at your own pace.
What do I need to know about operating the quad bike myself?
You operate the bike throughout the ride, so basic comfort with handling a quad is assumed. The guide leads the group and sets the pace, and helmets, gloves and glasses are provided. The operator notes the activity is suitable for all fitness levels but is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, heart conditions or serious cardiovascular issues.
Does the price include getting to and from my hotel?
Yes, hotel pickup and return are included for hotels in Kiwengwa and up to 10 km beyond. The three-hour experience covers the ride, guide, all gear, refreshments and restroom facilities on board.
