The experience
The route starts at Arusha airport, where your guide meets you and drives to the hotel for a briefing on what the next five days hold. From there, the 4WD heads into Tarangire National Park, where the Tarangire River draws concentrations of elephants, baobab trees, and tree-climbing African pythons. The park ranks sixth among Tanzania's national parks by size and sits at the heart of the northern safari circuit.
Days three and four take you into the Serengeti during the great migration: the world's second longest overland migration, covering around 800 kilometers. Between January and March, roughly half a million wildebeest are born in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the south. By March, as the dry season begins, around 1.5 million wildebeest and 250,000 zebras start moving north toward Kenya's Maasai Mara, joined by eland, plains zebras, and Thomson's gazelles. The herds cross the Grumet and Mara Rivers, where around 3,000 crocodiles wait. More than 500 bird species inhabit the Serengeti: Masai ostriches, secretary birds, kori bustards, crowned cranes, African fish eagles, and numerous vulture species among them. You stay at Thorn Tree Tented Camp, a 3-star glamping site.
Day five moves into the Ngorongoro Crater and Conservation Area, where over 26,000 big mammals live within the crater itself. This is one of the best places to see all five of Africa's famous mammals (lions, rhinos, leopards, elephants and buffalo) plus hippos, jackals, zebras, cheetahs, crocodiles and more. The crater floor holds Lake Magadi and the Lerai Fever Tree Forest. You return to Eileen's Trees Inn, a 3-star hotel, for your final night. On day six, the guide drives you back to Arusha airport for your onward flight.

Is this one for you?Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or a fifth language, so you pick the one you're most comfortable with when you book. The 6-day length lets you move through three parks and see the migration and the crater without rushing. If you have only four days, you'd skip the Serengeti. If you have eight, you'd add a second park or more time in one.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German and Italian.
What wildlife will I actually see on a Serengeti safari in this season?
The Serengeti holds more than 500 bird species and large herds of wildebeest, zebras, eland and gazelles during migration months. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas and African wild dogs hunt across the plains. The exact animals you see depend on the month and the migration's position along its 800-kilometer route.
Can I see the big five in the Ngorongoro Crater?
Yes. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the best places to spot all five of Africa's famous mammals: lions, rhinos, leopards, elephants and buffalo. Over 26,000 big mammals live within the crater, along with hippos, jackals, zebras, cheetahs and crocodiles.
Are meals included, or do I need to arrange food separately?
All meals are included: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, wine and soft drinks throughout the six days.
How do I get from Arusha airport to the tour's starting point?
Your guide meets you at Arusha airport and drives you to the hotel on day one as part of the tour, so there's no separate transfer to arrange.
