The Experience

You meet at Taipei Bike Works on Chongqing North Road and ride north through the city's oldest neighborhoods, pedaling past grand architecture and temples toward Dihua Street. This 19th-century riverside trading hub once moved herbs, medicines, dried goods, fabrics and teas through the city; your guide shares the history as you cycle through. The route takes you along a spacious bike path that runs beside the river with open skyline views, then past Bao'an Temple—built in 1825 at the confluence of two rivers and finished a quarter-century later—and the Taipei Confucius Temple across from it.

You'll stop at the National Revolutionary Martyrs' Shrine, built in 1969 and overlooking the Keelung River, and pass through Taipei Expo Park, a three-part recreational area that hosts exhibitions and markets. The tour also covers a neighborhood voted one of the 40 coolest in the world in 2023 by Time Out—now filled with Japanese bars, restaurants and a layered history that runs deep into Taiwan's past. Midway through, you refuel with a traditional Taiwanese snack at a local market, breaking up the ride and giving you a taste of how locals eat.

The tour ends back at the bike shop. Your guide can recommend the nearby Ningxia Night Market, a five-minute walk away, if you want to keep exploring after the ride ends. Bring a valid ID and wear the provided helmet; the shop supplies water and a rain jacket in case the weather turns.
