The experience
Start at 7:45am from Lucerne and ride the regional train 40 minutes through lush farmland to Engelberg, a historic resort town nestled in the valley. From there, a bus carries you to the cable car station, and the cable car lifts you 1,850 meters up into snow-capped peaks and glaciers that rise another 1,000 meters above. Your guide leads you onto a circular trail with a vista point facing the north face of Mt. Titlis, the highest peak in the area, then continues along a plateau trail that overlooks the valley and surrounding high mountain peaks.
The descent gives you options. You can take a rustic cable car partway down to the lunch stop, or hike the full route, which passes the thundering Stauber waterfall and takes you through green pastures where you'll hear cow bells and the rush of mountain streams. Lunch is a one-hour stop at Staefeli, a traditional alpine farm inn serving homemade specialties (bring cash, not credit cards). After eating, you hike gently downward for about 90 minutes through the tree line and forest, following a glacier stream until you reach the cable car station again. The local bus returns you to Engelberg by 5pm, leaving time to visit the cheese-maker in the old monastery buildings or walk through the village before the 5pm–6pm train back to Lucerne.
Your professional guide speaks English, Italian or German and adjusts the route to your fitness level and interests. The entire day (train, cable car, bus and guide) is private, so the pace and stops are yours to shape. All transportation is included. You only pay for lunch and any drinks.

Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 15 years); Infant (under 6).

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
How much hiking is actually involved on this Mt. Titlis tour?
The tour includes 4-5 hours of hiking spread across the day. The hike starts with a 40-minute ascent to a vista point, continues along a plateau trail, then descends past the Stauber waterfall and through pastures to the lunch stop. After lunch, you hike gently downward for about 90 minutes through forest back to the cable car station. Your guide adjusts the route based on your fitness level, so you can take the cable car partway down if you prefer.
What's the highest point I'll reach on this tour?
The cable car takes you to 1,850 meters (6,070 feet), where you start your hike. From there, Mt. Titlis and the surrounding glaciers rise another 1,000 meters above you, but the hiking route stays on the plateau and descends from that point rather than climbing higher.
Do I need to arrange my own way to the starting point in Lucerne?

Can I bring my own lunch or do I have to eat at the farm inn?
You can bring a picnic to eat in the open air surrounded by the mountains, or you can eat at Staefeli, the traditional alpine farm inn where the tour stops for lunch. Either way, lunch is your own expense. If you eat at the farm inn, bring cash rather than credit cards.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my tour?
The tour is subject to favorable weather conditions. If poor weather forces a cancellation, the operator will offer you an alternative date or a full refund.
