The Experience
The river is already moving when you step out of the van at the put-in. Cold water, grey-green and loud, pours down from the mountains — you can feel the current's pull even before you're in the boat. Your guide runs through the safety talk while you're still on the bank, pointing out the line through the first rapid, showing you how to brace and where to dig your paddle. Then you're in the raft with seven others, and the Lütschine doesn't wait. Class III and IV rapids come one after another, no flat water to catch your breath, just the roar of whitewater and the mountain walls closing in on both sides. The whole thing lasts 1.5 to 2 hours — straight from below the Eiger north face down to Lake Brienz.
What makes this different from a gentler river trip is the pace. There's no drifting, no long stretches where you're just floating and looking at scenery. Your guide is calling commands the whole way — forward, back, left, hold — and everyone has to move together or the raft gets pushed sideways into the rocks. You'll get soaked. Your arms will feel it. But that's the point. The Bernese Oberland's best whitewater rafting isn't about relaxation; it's about staying sharp and working as a team while the river does what it's been doing for thousands of years.
After you pull out at Lake Brienz, there's a 10-minute drive back to the base in Interlaken. You change in the heated rooms, take a hot shower — which feels better than it sounds after two hours in cold water — and then you get a free drink while you sit and watch the photos from the run. The whole thing, from arrival to leaving, takes about four hours. Meet your guides five minutes before the trip time, bring a swimsuit and towel, and strong swimming ability is a real requirement, not a suggestion. Maximum eight people per boat keeps it tight and responsive.
What’s included
Your day includes hotel pickup (if arranged), professional guides, all necessary rafting equipment, changing rooms and hot showers, and a complimentary drink after you finish. You'll receive a comprehensive safety briefing and training before you launch, and your photos from the run are available to view and order at the end.

Is this one for you? This is for people who want real whitewater, not a scenic float — the continuous Class III-IV rapids and the pace demand strong swimmers and a high level of fitness, which is what makes the rush possible in just two hours.
