The experience

The bus leaves Port Lausanne-Ouchy in the morning and climbs toward Interlaken, a village wedged between Lakes Thun and Brienz and ringed by the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The route itself is the draw: you watch the Alps rise as the landscape shifts from lakeside to mountain valleys. Once in Interlaken, the day is yours to shape. Most people walk Höheweg, the main street (level despite its name meaning "high path"), where you can browse Swiss army knives, watches and local chocolate, or duck into a restaurant for fondue. The village fills with tourists, but it's also genuinely built for them, so the shops and cafés are easy to navigate.

Harder Kulm is the other main stop, a terrace with a view that opens up the whole valley. You can reach it by foot or cable car (not included), and the time there is unscheduled, so you decide how long to stay. The guide points out the three peaks and the geography, but the rest of the afternoon is free time: no rushing between stops, no timed activities. This is what separates the tour from a faster itinerary: you get the mountains and the village both, without feeling herded.

The return journey leaves late afternoon, giving you the full daylight in the mountains. The bus ride back to Lausanne takes you through the same Alpine scenery in reverse, and you arrive in the evening. Bring layers: the altitude and the time of year shift the temperature, and the bus is air-conditioned. Children from age one are welcome, and the tour suits all fitness levels since most of the day is walking at your own pace through a flat village street.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 12 years); Infant (1 to 3 years).

How much free time do I actually get in Interlaken?

Interlaken is the heart of the day, and you have several hours to explore on your own: walk the shops and restaurants on Höheweg, visit Harder Kulm, or simply sit with a view of the peaks. The itinerary does not lock you into a schedule once you arrive.

What are Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau?

The three peaks are the famous summits of the Bernese Oberland, visible from Interlaken and from several points along the route. Jungfrau reaches 3,454 meters. Eiger and Mönch are the other two in the iconic trio. You see them from the valley and from Harder Kulm, not from the summits themselves.

Is food included, or do I need to budget for lunch?

Food and drinks are not included in the tour price. Interlaken has many restaurants and cafés where you can eat Swiss fondue or other meals during your free time, and you should plan to pay for lunch separately.

Does the tour stop at Harder Kulm, or is it optional?

Harder Kulm is a scheduled stop with free time to visit the terrace. You can reach it by walking or by taking the cable car (not included), and you decide how long to spend there before the group departs for Lausanne.

What language does the guide speak?

The guide speaks English and leads the group throughout the day, providing commentary on the route and the mountains. They travel with you on the bus and are present during the stops.
