The Flower Clock, the Jet d'Eau, and a 140-meter fountain spray you can photograph from the shore.

A guided city tour of Geneva by coach and foot (or mini-train, depending on weather) that covers the UN headquarters, the Broken Chair sculpture, the Flower Clock, and the Jet d'Eau fountain, with an optional boat cruise on Lake Geneva. The tour runs year-round; the mini-train operates only when weather permits, and the cruise option is available April through October. A live guide in English or French leads the group through the international district and the Old Town's original market square, arsenal, and cathedral.

2h–4h

Step-by-step itinerary

Geneva city tour highlights

  • Meet your guide and board the coach
  • See United Nations headquarters and flags
  • View the Broken Chair sculpture
  • Pass by the International Red Cross Museum
  • Discover the Jet d’Eau fountain
  • See the Flower Clock
  • Visit the old arsenal with mosaics
  • Explore Old Town by walk or mini train

The Experience

You meet your guide and board a coach that takes you through Geneva's international district first. The Palais des Nations comes into view with flags of all member countries flying; the guide explains Geneva's role as a diplomatic and financial center. You'll stop at the Broken Chair sculpture, a symbol representing landmines, and pass the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum before heading to Lake Geneva to see the Jet d'Eau — the 140-meter fountain that's the city's most famous landmark. The guide gives you time to photograph the spray and take in the water.

From there, the tour moves into the Old Town. Depending on the weather, you either walk the cobbled streets or ride a mini-train through them. Either way, you pass Saint Peter's Cathedral, the Place Bourg-de-four (the original market square), the arsenal with its three historical mosaics, and the town hall. The route is designed to show how the medieval layout has survived; the guide points out what each building meant to Geneva's past. The Flower Clock — the world's largest, built to represent the city's watchmaking heritage and love of botany — gets a photo stop.

If you've chosen the cruise option, there's a transition between the city tour and the boat departure; the operator notes this can sometimes be an hour's wait, depending on the boat company's schedule. The cruise itself lets you see Lake Geneva and the Jet d'Eau from the water, a different angle from the shore. The cruise option runs only from April through October, so winter visitors get the coach and walking tour alone.

Top questions

What's the Jet d'Eau and why is it such a big deal in Geneva?

The Jet d'Eau is Geneva's most iconic fountain, shooting 140 meters high into Lake Geneva. It's a symbol of the city and the main photo stop on the tour; you'll see it both from the shore and, if you book the cruise option, from the water.

Will I walk the Old Town or take the mini-train?

The Old Town section runs by mini-train in summer and on foot in winter, depending on weather. Either way, you pass the same landmarks — the cathedral, the original market square, and the arsenal — just at a different pace.

Is the boat cruise included in every tour option?

No. The city tour alone covers Geneva by coach and Old Town by foot or mini-train. The cruise on Lake Geneva is a separate option you can add at checkout; it's available April through October only.

What's the Flower Clock, and where do you stop to see it?

The Flower Clock is the world's largest, planted to represent Geneva's watchmaking tradition and botanical heritage. It's a photo stop on the tour, and the guide explains its significance to the city.

How long does the whole tour take?

The city tour runs between two and four hours depending on the pace and which stops you linger at. If you add the cruise, allow extra time for the boat departure and the crossing itself.

Can I bring a stroller or pram for small children?

Yes. Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller throughout the tour. The mini-train in summer and the coach transport are both stroller-friendly.
