Take the controls of a real Boeing cockpit and fly for an hour

Fly a full-scale Boeing B777 flight simulator in Zurich, a true-to-life replica cockpit used for official pilot training worldwide. After a 15–20 minute briefing from an experienced line pilot or captain, you spend 60 minutes at the controls with an instructor guiding you through takeoff, flight and landing. The 220° curved screen creates an authentic sense of flight as you navigate real-world scenarios.

The experience

The simulator is a certified training device: the same kind airlines use to qualify their pilots. You'll sit in the actual cockpit layout with every switch, dial and lever where a real pilot finds it. The curved screen wraps 220° around you, so the view from the windows feels genuine enough that your body responds to the pitch and roll of the aircraft. An experienced instructor sits beside you throughout the flight, talking you through each phase and taking over if needed, so there's no risk of crashing into anything that matters.

The session runs about 80 minutes total. The first 15–20 minutes is a ground briefing where you learn the basics of the aircraft systems and what you'll do once you're airborne. Then you're in the seat for a full hour of flying. You can bring up to two people as spectators to watch from the cabin behind the cockpit, and the facility provides coffee, tea and soft drinks for everyone. The space is wheelchair accessible, and all areas are flat and easy to move through.

A professional line pilot, captain or flight instructor runs the session in English, French or German, depending on what you need. They've flown real B777s for airlines, so they know what they're teaching and can answer questions about how the real aircraft behaves. The maximum weight limit is 120 kg per person at the controls.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, French and German.

What exactly do I do for the 60 minutes I'm flying the simulator?

You sit in the left or right seat of the cockpit and fly a complete sortie: startup procedures, takeoff, a cruise segment where you navigate using real waypoints, and a descent into a real airport with an approach and landing. Your instructor handles radio calls and manages systems you don't need to touch, so you can focus on flying the aircraft. You control the yoke, throttles and autopilot, and you make the decisions about heading and altitude.

Can I bring people to watch me fly, and what will they see?

Yes, up to two spectators can sit in the cabin area behind the cockpit. They'll see the same view you see on the curved screen, so they watch the flight unfold in real time and can follow what's happening. Coffee and tea are provided for them as well.

Is this the same simulator that airlines use to train their pilots?

The Boeing B777 simulator in Zurich is certified as an official Flight Simulation Training Device, which means it meets the same standards airlines use for pilot training. The cockpit is a true-to-life replica with the real layout and systems, and the environment imaging system is produced by a world-leading manufacturer. However, this session is designed for civilians to experience flying, not for formal pilot certification.

Do I need any flying experience or pilot's license to do this?

No experience is required. The instructor will teach you everything you need to know during the briefing and will guide you through every step of the flight. The session is suitable for all physical fitness levels, and the instructor is there to help you succeed.

What's included in the 80-minute session?

The session includes the 15–20 minute ground briefing, 60 minutes of flight time in the simulator with a professional instructor, coffee or tea, and soft drinks. Up to two spectators can watch from the cabin. Parking fees are not included.
