Learn to photograph moose and arctic animals with a Sami guide born in the region.

A half-day wildlife and nature photography activity in Kiruna where you follow a local Sami guide to photograph moose, reindeer and other arctic animals. The guide provides camera instruction, shares knowledge of Sami life and arctic ecology, and helps you practice composition and technique in the field. A camera with tele-lens is included, or bring your own. The tour ends with hot coffee or tea and cake. Children from age 8 are welcome.

The experience

Four hours on the ground means you can fit this into a morning or afternoon and still have time for other plans in Kiruna. You'll drive by car to locations the guide chooses based on the weather and the Sami eight seasons, stopping to practice with the camera before you start looking for animals. The guide teaches you how to use the tele-lens or your own mobile phone to frame landscape, plants and wildlife, so you leave with both better photographs and the skills to take them.

The search for moose, reindeer and birds is real. The guide cannot guarantee sightings, but knows the area from childhood and understands where animals move with the seasons. You'll move quietly through the landscape, learning to spot and approach wildlife while the guide explains the ecology and Sami traditions tied to each season and animal. The tour ends at a stop for hot drink and cake, a moment to review what you've captured and talk through what worked.
