The experience
The hike starts at Hope Estate, where the guide meets you after a short drive from either Kingstown or the resort. The trail itself winds through the South Leeward mountains, lined with seasonal fruit trees and the wildlife that depends on them. You'll move at a pace that lets you spot parrots, iguanas, agoutis and armadillos as they appear along the path, and the guide points out what grows and lives here. The walk to Gorilla Rock and back takes about an hour to an hour and twenty minutes, depending on how long you linger at viewpoints.
At the rock itself, you get close enough to photograph it and take in the surrounding landscape. On the way back down, there's a chance to interact with the tour's donkeys and feed the goats: a moment most people bring their camera for. The whole experience, from pickup to return, runs 4 to 5 hours, so you're back with time left in the day.
