The experience

The tour starts with a scenic drive to Greenwood Terrace, where your guide meets you for a walk through the working farm and tropical gardens. You'll see, touch and smell your way through over 300 species of flowering plants, learning which ones the islanders use for medicine and cooking. The guide explains the properties of each plant as you move through the garden, not a lecture, but a hands-on look at what actually grows here and why it matters to daily life on the island.

After the garden, you visit a traditional medicinal herb garden filled with spices and plants used in both healing and food. Then comes the onsite museum, a small collection of artifacts that trace St. Lucia's history from the past into the present day. The final stop is a tasting session where you sample local delicacies, sweets and alcoholic beverages. Many made from the fruits and plants you just walked past. The whole experience runs about two and a half hours.

Hotel or port pickup and drop-off are included, and the guide speaks English. The tour is air-conditioned vehicle transport between stops. You'll need at least a moderate level of fitness for the garden walks, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
