The experience

The catamaran leaves for Soufriere and heads toward the Pitons, passing fishing villages on the way. You'll stop at Diamond Falls Botanical Garden to walk through the grounds and see the waterfall, then make a brief stop at Marigot Bay to learn its history. The boat carries snorkel gear, so you're ready when you reach the protected reef at the base of the Pitons: no separate rental needed.

Sulphur Springs is the centerpiece: it's the world's first drive-in volcano, and the boat takes you close enough to wade in and cover yourself in the warm, mineral-rich mud. The springs sit on the seafloor, so you're bathing in geothermal water that's been heating the ocean floor for centuries. After you rinse off, an authentically prepared local creole lunch waits on board, along with breakfast and beverages.

The tour wraps with snorkeling over the reef again if conditions allow, and a final look at Marigot Bay before heading back. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included for selected hotels, so you don't arrange transport separately. The full day runs seven hours, and you'll want to bring a change of clothes, towel, swimsuit, camera and sunscreen: the sun reflects hard off the water and the volcanic rock.

Operated by Island Routes

Is this one for you?The catamaran picks up at selected hotels, so you skip arranging a ride to the dock: that matters if you're staying without a rental car or unfamiliar with the island roads. The full day on the water means you see Soufriere, the Pitons and Marigot Bay without driving between them yourself.
