The experience

You start at Pinney's Beach with paperwork and a mandatory safety briefing: helmet fitting, UTV operation basics, and a practice lap to make sure you're confident before the main route. The tour then heads inland on the main road, transitioning onto off-road trails through Hamilton Village toward the historic sugar estate ruins. You'll walk through the remnants of the Great House, Windmill, Boiling House and Chimney, all reclaimed by tropical growth and offering a tangible sense of the island's colonial past.

From there you drive uphill through lush greenery to Saddle Hill, a few hundred feet above sea level where Admiral Lord Nelson once kept watch for approaching ships. The views sweep across the Caribbean Sea and neighboring islands. The route then passes the Botanical Gardens: an optional stop with orchids, water-lily ponds, bamboo groves and a rainforest conservatory where parrots fly among tropical plants. Entry is $17 USD per person and the gardens close mid-August through mid-October. You can also detour to the Nevis Artisan Village in Charlestown for local souvenirs before returning to the beach.

Each UTV seats two or four people with one driver, and comes equipped with a cooler, bottled water, local beers and snacks you can access throughout the ride. The operator customizes the pace and stops to your preference, whether you want to relax, listen to music while exploring, or capture moments for social media. The full 2.5 hours includes all driving, walking time at the stops, and rest breaks.

Top questions

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

Can I ride as a passenger if I don't want to drive the UTV myself?

Yes. Each UTV seats two or four people with one driver, so you can ride as a passenger while someone else operates the vehicle. The tour is designed for groups to enjoy together either way.

What happens at the sugar mill ruins on this tour?

You drive to Hamilton Estate and walk through the historic remains of a colonial sugar plantation, including the Great House, Windmill, Boiling House and Chimney. The structures are now being reclaimed by nature, giving you a physical sense of the island's past without a formal museum setting.

Is the Botanical Gardens included in the tour price?

The gardens are an optional stop along the route. Entry costs $17 USD per person if you choose to go in. The tour passes by, but you decide whether to stop and explore the orchids, water-lily ponds, bamboo groves and rainforest conservatory.

What do I need to bring or know before booking?

You'll need a valid driver's license to operate the UTV. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dusty and bring sunscreen. The tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy. Everyone else at any fitness level can participate.

What's included to eat and drink during the ride?

The tour includes locally made refreshments from Nevis, bottled water, and six local beers, all accessible throughout the 2.5-hour ride. A cooler on each UTV keeps everything cold as you stop at different points.
