The experience
The tour starts with a drive through Sri Lanka's interior, stopping first at an Ayurvedic herbal garden where you can see medicinal plants and receive a complimentary head massage. From there you visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, one of Buddhism's most important pilgrimage sites, which houses a relic of the Buddha's tooth inside the former royal palace complex. The route then takes you to one of Sri Lanka's largest wood carving factories, where artisans craft pieces entirely by hand, and to Ramboda Falls, a waterfall set in the highlands.
The second half of day one focuses on Nuwara Eliya, the colonial-era hill station known locally as "Little England." You walk through a working tea factory to see how Sri Lankan tea is processed and get to taste it fresh, then stroll around Gregory Lake in its scenic setting. You spend the night in a 3-star hotel with dinner included. On day two, the train departs Badulla railway station at 8:30 a.m., traveling for about six and a half hours to Kandy. The route passes through tea gardens, tunnels, and mountain terrain, with views of waterfalls and the surrounding highlands. After arriving at Kandy railway station around 3 p.m., you return to your hotel.
