The experience

The day starts at 8:20 am from the X-sur shopping center parking in Costa Adeje, or the operator can arrange pickup from your hotel in South Tenerife if you call ahead. You climb into a 4WD Jeep built for the terrain you are about to cross: volcanic plateaus, rough tracks and the kind of ground a regular car cannot handle. The vehicle itself is what makes the route possible. Without it, these roads stay closed to you.

El Teide National Park is Spain's most visited national park, and the Jeep takes you across the plateau where you see the geological aftermath of volcanic eruptions that built one of the world's largest volcanoes. The landscape is bare and dramatic. The kind of thing you cannot photograph the same way from a tour bus window.
