The experience
The day starts with pickup at your Malaga port or hotel, then a drive to the ferry terminal. The crossing to Tangier takes you across the strait between the Atlantic and Mediterranean, and your guide meets you on arrival to lead the rest of the day. A private vehicle stays with your group throughout, so you move between stops without waiting for others or arranging separate transport.
The itinerary moves through Tangier's main draws: Perdicaris Park, a walled garden in the city center; Achakkar Beach, where you mount a camel for a ride along the golden sand and turquoise water; Cape Spartel, a clifftop promontory where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, marked by a working lighthouse; and the Caves of Hercules, a sea cave with rock formations and views back toward Spain. You also visit the Nahon Synagogue, a restored 17th-century building with a museum of Jewish artifacts, and the Kasbah, the old fortress that overlooks the medina. Lunch is three courses of traditional Moroccan food, eaten as a group. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and one additional language, and can answer questions about the sites as you move through them.
Free time in the medina lets you browse the market stalls for spices, textiles and local goods without a schedule pushing you along. The return ferry departs in the late afternoon, and you're back at your Malaga starting point by evening. Bottled water is provided throughout the day, and the vehicle is wheelchair accessible. All areas of the tour sites are also accessible, and the tour suits all fitness levels.
