The experience
You arrive at Sorbas Cave and descend into galleries carved by water and time through soft gypsum rock. The route is almost entirely horizontal, though you'll climb a little in places and crawl briefly in others. Nothing steep or technical. A live guide leads small groups through the cave, pointing out how erosion has shaped the stone and how your helmet light reflects off the gypsum crystals as you move through. The whole experience, including walking time to and from the cave entrance, takes between 1.5 and 2 hours depending on group size and pace.
Helmet and individual lighting are provided, so you just need comfortable clothes and sports shoes. The cave stays cool and damp, and the ground is uneven in places, so sturdy footwear matters. Fabric overalls are available to rent if you want to keep your clothes clean, though most visitors don't need them. Children from age 3 can do this route if they're comfortable moving through tight spaces and following instructions. The guide adjusts the pace for mixed-age groups.
Photos and video inside the cave aren't allowed, but the operator offers a photo service at the end of your visit so you have a record of the day. The route is designed as a first caving experience (no technical skills, no special fitness level required), which is why it works for everyone from young children to older adults with basic mobility.
