The experience
The route starts with a 10-minute walk to a quiet hilltop where the guide shares the story of the place while you taste ensaimada, the spiral pastry that defines Mallorca. From there, the tour moves through the Serra de Tramuntana (the mountain range UNESCO declared a World Heritage Site) toward the Valley of Sóller, stopping at what was once Ramón Llull's monastery and later became Archduke Ludwig Salvator's summer retreat. The palace gardens and rooms hold the history of two men who left an outsized mark on the island: Llull, the 13th-century philosopher and inventor, and the Austrian archduke who pioneered tourism here in the 1800s. You'll taste salted cookies and cheese before moving on.
The final stop is a small family-run olive oil mill that has been pressing oil for centuries. The owners walk you through how they make it and grow their local oranges by hand, then serve a Mallorcan lunch they've prepared: bread with oil, wine, water and fresh orange juice included. The whole day covers 70 km and lasts about 5 hours. If you're driving your own car, you'll get a portable communication system so the guide's commentary reaches you. If you book the VIP-Trip option, pickup and drop-off at your hotel are included, and you ride with the group.
