The experience
The tour starts with a pickup in Santander or nearby, then follows the winding Desfiladero road that cuts through the mountains between Panes and Potes. Sr. Buelga stops at off-the-beaten-path locations along this gorge for photographs and short walks, then reaches Potes. A small village where you can have a snack before heading higher into the park. Lunch happens around 1 pm at one of the area's best restaurants, chosen based on what you're in the mood for and what's available that day.
The Fuente Dé cable car is the centerpiece: it climbs 753 meters in just four minutes, depositing you at 1,823 meters high with views across immense mountain terrain. Tickets are included if the cable car is operating. After that, Sr. Buelga takes you into the heart of the park for a customized stretch, which villages, valleys and peaks you visit depends on weather, your energy level and what caught your eye. The day ends in Sotres, the highest inhabited village in Picos de Europa, before the drive back to Santander.
Sr. Buelga brings a geology degree and years of guiding experience to the landscape. He also has strong opinions about regional food and will steer you toward what the area does best. The 4WD Toyota Land Cruiser handles the steep, winding roads. Snacks and drinks are included throughout the day, and if you want dinner after the tour, that can be arranged as well. The whole day runs 8 to 11 hours depending on where you stop and how long you linger.

Is this one for you?The full day, 8 to 11 hours, is built around the cable car and the high villages, which means you see the park's core in one trip but won't have time for a separate town visit or a long afternoon elsewhere in Cantabria. If you want to combine this with other activities, book it early in your stay.
