Sunset SUP lessons in Marbella: Learn paddle boarding
Glide through Marbella’s marina waters with mountain views and a refreshing drink waiting dockside
A 2.5-hour paddle boarding class in Marbella that starts in the calm Marina with instruction from a professional guide, then takes you into the open Mediterranean as daylight fades. The class includes your board, paddle, wetsuit when needed, and ends with a complimentary drink at a local bar where you can watch the sun dip below the horizon. Children from age 6 are welcome; guides speak English, Spanish or French.
The Experience
Can you actually learn to paddle board in an afternoon? Yes—the instructors teach the fundamentals in Marbella's Marina, where the water stays calm and the promenade gives you a clear reference point. You'll practice your strokes, get comfortable with balance and movement, and build enough confidence to venture beyond the breakwater into the open sea. The whole setup—board, paddle, wetsuit if the water is cold—is provided, so you show up and start learning.
Once you're ready, you paddle out into the Mediterranean with the guide leading the way. The Sierra Blanca mountains rise behind the town, the coast stretches in both directions, and the water deepens as you move away from the marina. You'll paddle, swim if you want to, and watch the light change across the water. There's no schedule to race against and no crowds to navigate around—just the rhythm of the paddle and the view opening up in front of you.
The class wraps up back at the marina as the sun reaches the horizon. You head to a local bar right there on the water with your guide and the other people who paddled with you that day. A drink is included—beer, wine or a soft option—and you sit together watching the light fade, talking through the afternoon, and unwinding after being active on the water. The whole thing takes 2.5 hours from start to finish.
What’s included
- Professional instruction in English, Spanish or French.
- paddle board and paddle.
- wetsuit when water temperature requires it.
- accident insurance.
- access to toilets and changing rooms.
- one complimentary drink (beer, wine or soft option) at the marina bar after the class.

Is this one for you?Book the spring or autumn session if you want the warmest water and clearest light without peak summer crowds; summer works if you prefer guaranteed heat and don't mind busier conditions. The class suits anyone who wants to learn an actual skill—balance, stroke technique, water confidence—rather than just float on a board, and the sunset timing means you're paddling as the light changes instead of in full sun.

Do I need to know how to paddle board before I book this?
No. The class teaches you the fundamentals in the calm Marina before you venture into open water, so it's built for people picking up the skill for the first time. You do need a moderate level of physical fitness to paddle and balance on the board for 2.5 hours.
What's the water like in Marbella when we paddle?
The Marina where you start is sheltered and calm, which is where instruction happens. Once you move into the open Mediterranean, the water is deeper and more exposed, but the guide stays with the group and the pace is set by everyone paddling together, not by the conditions.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
The class runs in spring, summer and autumn depending on which option you choose at checkout. Marbella's climate is mild year-round, but if conditions become unsafe on the day, the operator will reschedule you or offer a refund.
Is the drink at the end included, or do I pay extra?
The drink is included—beer, wine or a non-alcoholic option—and you have it at the marina bar as part of the class. No extra charge.
Can my child come paddle boarding with me?
Children are welcome from age 6 onward. They learn the same fundamentals as adults and paddle in the same group, so it's a family activity if that's what you want.
Do I need to arrange my own way to the marina, or is pickup included?
You arrange your own transport to Marbella's Marina, where the class begins. Hotel pickup and drop-off are not part of this class, but the marina is in the town center and easy to reach by taxi, car or local transport.
