The experience

You arrive at the meeting point in Cala Millor and watch the balloon inflate: a brightly colored envelope that fills the sky. After a safety briefing from your pilot, you step into the basket with up to nine other passengers and rise without engine noise, without the sensation of speed, just the slow drift upward as the island spreads beneath you. The pilot handles the controls. Your job is to look, to steady yourself against the wicker rim, to have your camera ready.

For roughly an hour you float over northeast Mallorca. The beaches below are white sand edged with pine forest.
