You’ll float above northeast Mallorca in a small group hot air balloon ride at sunrise or sunset, led by a local pilot who shares stories along the way. Capture aerial views of beaches and pine forests, then celebrate landing with Champagne and new friends. It’s quiet up there—just wind, laughter, and that feeling you might remember long after you’re back on solid ground.
Hands gripping the edge of the basket, I watched as our balloon’s shadow stretched across the fields near Cala Millor. The pilot—Miguel, I think his name was—gave a quick nod before pulling the burner. That first blast of heat and sudden whoosh made my stomach flutter more than the height did. I’d never realized how quiet mornings could be up here, except for the occasional laugh from someone behind me when the wind caught their hair just right. The sea below looked like it belonged to another world.
We drifted slowly over pine forests and those pale beaches you see on postcards—except this time, they were real and right there under us. Miguel pointed out little villages tucked between green hills, telling stories about each one (I only caught half because my Spanish is still terrible). At one point he asked if anyone wanted to try saying “globus aerostàtic” in Catalan; Li laughed when I tried to say it—probably butchered it. There was this smell of warm air and something sweet from the fields below, maybe wildflowers or just that early sun on grass.
The hour passed in that strange way time does when you’re not checking your phone—just sky and silence and a few shared glances with strangers who suddenly felt like friends. Landing was bumpier than I expected (my knees actually knocked together), but nobody seemed to mind. We toasted with Champagne right there on the field, glasses clinking awkwardly as we tried not to spill anything on our sneakers. I still think about that view sometimes—the light over Mallorca at sunrise or sunset isn’t something you can really pack up and take home, you know?
