The Experience

Hands gripping the edge of the basket, I watched as our balloon’s shadow stretched across the fields near Cala Millor. The pilot—Miguel, I think his name was—gave a quick nod before pulling the burner. That first blast of heat and sudden whoosh made my stomach flutter more than the height did. There was this smell of warm air and something sweet from the fields below, maybe wildflowers or just that early sun on grass.
